Metrics Impacted: Customer acquisition
Recommendation:
People measure quantity in 2 ways.
Number (say 10)
A unit (say 10gms)
Most product’s quantity is easier to understand when told using the first method.
Eg. 10 chocolate pieces is easier to remember than 300gms
Effects:
Everyone is not good at math (well I’m not). So what if you go to a hosting provider’s website and see a plan mentioned as 10GB/month. Now wouldn't it be easier for us if they had just said “10,000 visits/month”?
This works in most cases where we can understand numbers like scoops of icecream, laps of race, instead of traditional metrics such as grams and kms.
Why it works?
Imagine going to a store and you see 2 different signs which say,
get 10 pieces of chocolate for 500 rupees
Get 50gms of chocolate for 500 rupees
Now which is more easier to understand?
This works because we firmly ingrained to use non-scientific numbers as they are more easier to interpret.
This is also why you see ads about dishwashing liquids saying “10 effective washes”.
How to implement this?
Well it really depends on your product and imagination.
If you want to market the best feature of your product, you can use these easy to measure number. If its a relatively weaker feature, you can use traditional measurements.
You can also use this method to compare plans of a particular product (like the hosting example)
